Installing bi-fold doors can be challenging. But what about trimming them. The way you finish a bi-fold can set it apart from being elegant to just another bi-fold door. When you think about trimming a bi-fold, the area that comes to mind is the casing. If you have wood jambs on a bi-fold then you would case them just like any other door. If you have drywall and corner bead bi-fold openings this process can work for you as well, however attaching them may require gluing and nailing the trim. But I like to take it one step further. When I see bi-fold doors and I see gaps on the sides, I think to myself, man if they would have taken it one step further, the bi-fold could look so much better. The picture below shows the light visible through the sides of the bi-fold. These are the gaps I was talking about.
By installing trim around the sides and at the top to cover the track, you can make this bi-fold look like a hinged door.
The photo above shows the bi-fold door with trim installed around the door. Looking at the door you can see the light is no longer visible. In my opinion has a custom and elegant look to it.
Trimming a bi-fold in this way is a little tricky. In my video How to trim a Bi-fold I break it down for you and show you step by step. I will show you how to measure, cope, and install base shoe around the bi-fold to give it a look
